Around the 1950s, with the awareness of the gradual and ineluctable motorization of boats and the risk of the simultaneous loss of the traditions of seafaring and navigation in the lagoon, in the city and at sea, using flat-bottomed hulls of different types and shapes, there was a significant recovery and re-launch of what is commonly referred to as vela al terzo. The name derives from the way in which the sail is mounted, precisely at one third of the length of the top yard. Currently the Bucintoro’s fleet consists of three sanpierote equipped al terzo, complete with oars and forcole necessary for rowing. The RSCB, always present in the Venetian regattas, offers courses and excursions under the guidance of the club’s expert sailors.
